Student Assistance Program (SAP)
The Pennsylvania Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a team process that supports students in order to remove barriers to academic success, including mental health and substance use concerns. The multidisciplinary team consists of school counselors, administrators, and other school personnel, as well as mental health and substance use liaisons from True North Wellness Services. SAP team members are trained to identify issues and make recommendations to assist the student and the family.
The Student Assistance Process begins with a referral. Anyone concerned about a student’s well-being can make a referral to SAP -- for example, school staff, a student’s friend, a family member, or a community member. Students may also self-refer to the SAP team. Parents are an important member of the SAP program, and their signed consent is required for their child to receive this service.
To refer a student to SAP, please contact the student’s school counselor or a member of the building’s SAP team or complete the SAP referral form online.
More information about SAP may be found on the Pennsylvania Department of Education's website.
